主要从事地幔柱、板块重建、岩浆和气候耦合作用相关研究，聚焦新特提斯洋演化历史、大洋缺氧事件与弧岩浆作用、地幔柱喷发的动力学过程等，取得的代表性成果如下：（1）系统限定了新特提斯洋的演化历史，提出新特提斯洋俯冲对华南的影响持续到晚白垩世；（2）揭示了大洋缺氧事件对弧岩浆性质和成矿的影响；（3）提出一个新的地幔柱头正在夏威夷形成。已发表论文75余篇，其中第一/通讯作者论文18篇，论文总被引2000余次，H-index指数19，作为客座编辑在SCI期刊组织专辑2部。
