理学博士,中国科学院海洋研究所二级研究员,博士生导师,中国科学院大学岗位教授。研究方向为海洋生物学,长期从事海洋生物多样性、无脊椎动物分类系统学、海洋大型底栖生物生态学、甲壳动物学研究和海洋生态环境调查与评估等。1994年10月起享受国务院政府特殊津贴。主要学术兼职有全球海洋生物普查计划(CoML)科学委员会委员、国际甲壳动物学会执行理事,中国动物学会常务理事兼甲壳动物学分会理事长、中国海洋湖沼学会理事兼甲壳动物学分会理事长/底栖生物学分会副理事长、山东动物学会副理事长、青岛市动物学会理事长,国家级海域使用论证评审专家、中华人民共和国濒危物种科学委员会协审专家、农业部濒危水生野生动植物种科学委员会委员,全国海洋生物学首席科学传播专家等。主持和完成科技部基础性工作专项、国家自然科学基金、中国科学院重点项目等50余项。已发表专著5部、译著1部、科普著作1部、学术论文200余篇,其中SCI期刊论文百余篇,获发明专利授权4项,获省部级奖2次。作为首批科学家团队成员参加了2013年中国第一艘载人深潜器“蛟龙”号的试验性应用首航次深海考察并下潜,是第一位乘“蛟龙”号下潜至3500米以上级深海的科学工作者,也是第一位既乘坐过“蛟龙”号也乘坐过“深海勇士”号载人深潜器下潜深海的海洋生物学工作者。
