| The goal of LOICZ is to provide the knowledge, understanding and prediction needed to allow coastal communities to assess, anticipate and respond to the interaction of global change and local pressures which determine coastal change. |

| LOICZ will focus on how humans are supported by the coastal system, how their activities impact upon it, and what policies and practices will be required to ensure its sustainability. This Science Plan and Implementation Strategy organ?izes the biogeochemical, physical and human dimensions of coastal change into five themes. |
